Entrepreneurial Dynamics in Emerging Economies: The Mediating Role of Quality within the IQED Model
Myriam Bousrih
Entrepreneurial dynamics are widely recognized as a key driver of economic development in emerging economies. However, their measurement remains largely based on quantitative indicators such as entrepreneurial activity rates. Evidence from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor shows that high levels of entrepreneurial intensity do not necessarily lead to improved economic performance. This paper proposes a conceptual and qualitative re-examination of entrepreneurial dynamics by integrating both intensity and quality dimensions. Using an interpretative qualitative analysis based on GEM reports, the study highlights the role of behavioral, institutional, and sociocultural factors in transforming entrepreneurial activity into sustainable economic dynamics. An integrated conceptual model is developed, emphasizing the mediating role of entrepreneurial quality. The findings suggest a paradigm shift in both academic research and public policy, moving from a quantity-based to a quality-oriented perspective.
